#BIRDGANG Worldwide!
Many of us have been a Cardinals fan since they arrived to the valley of the sun back in 1988. Many of us have lived here our entire lives and being a Cardinals fan is a way of life, sometimes not being the easiest way of life. Cardinals fans have endured the hardest of times, many of them dating back to the Sun Devil Stadium days. Until the Arizona Cardinals reached the Super Bowl just a few years ago, the Cardinals didn’t get much respect from anyone in the NFL world.
So, to find out there are Cardinals fans outside of Arizona who don’t have any ties to the state is pretty cool. But how about Cardinals fans outside of the country? Impossible right? Actually, it is very possible. Since my introduction to the twitter world about a year ago, I have come across many fans from around the world. When I say from around the world, I don’t mean Americans living abroad. I’m talking about native citizens of that country, many of which have never stepped foot on United States soil. Pretty cool right?
While sharing the @BirdgangPodcast twitter handle with my co-host, @ZoopaLoop, as well as having my own, @AzBirdgangMC, I have come across fans from places like Canada, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom just to name a few. How these people became fans of the Arizona Cardinals beats me, but I did get a good story from a guy in Brazil. A few months ago I finally asked him how he became a Cardinals fan. He explained to me that he visited the United States back in February 2009, which just happened to be during the Super Bowl. He went on to say that he decided to pick a team to cheer for, which happened to be the Arizona Cardinals. Ever since then, he has been a die hard fan living in Brazil!
It’s very surprising and pretty awesome that the Cardinals have fans worldwide. I’m sure the emergence of Larry Fitzgerald over the years has helped with that, but I’m very proud to see our team being represented around the world. Too bad many of our own Arizonian’s can’t even be die hard fans of the Cardinals. I’m talking about the Cowboy fans that have never been to Dallas, the Niner fans that have never been to Frisco, and the Steelers fans that have never…….. don’t even get me started.
For those of you reading this and have a twitter account, feel free to follow these fans of the “#BIRDGANG Worldwide” club. I have made a list that has direct links to their twitter account. Please give them a follow, they deserve it just for being #BIRDGANG fans living in another country. If you are reading this and I left you off the list or know of anybody else that is on twitter, just leave a comment below and I will add you/them as soon as possible. Go Cards!
Feel free to post general comments below as well.
